Percy Echols II is an artist whose work has always been in the realm of a maker, where his hand has a dominant presence in the making of work. He does not see medium as purely process, but rather a conduit for communicating ideas. Over the last few years, he has taken courses and workshops to expand and refine his knowledge. His individual expression balances between functional design and sculptural concepts. He uses various media and processes that depend on what his specific ideas are at the time.
Recently, he curated a survey show of alumni work from the Illinois State University's studio glass program, entitled Gather. We worked with him to document his own work for the show catalog. The exhibition is on view at Ramp-Arts in Illinois through February 25.
